Marijuana has a bad reputation whether for medicinal or recreational use. The University of Vermont offers to destroy this taboo by offering a course in the science of the drug.
Though some institutions already offer a similar course, it is only limited to laws and policies of the drug. The University of Vermont, on the other hand, aims to give a full course on medical cannabis from the plant’s taxonomy to the drug’s pharmacology and sociologic effects.
The course is offered and open to everyone. From medical students, members of legislative and law enforcement and even the general public. They also want to publish their own textbook about the course since the existing books on the subject include making and cleaning of pipes and cooking with marijuana for recreational purposes which is not what they want to teach.
The only hindrance seen by the professors of the course is the lack of research, specifically, access to high-quality research and limited number of clinical trials. This does not stop the almost 90 graduate and undergraduate students that have already signed up to pursue a course in the science of cannabis.
