A caregiver is someone who has a significant responsibility in managing the health and well-being of a patient. A caregiver must be registered under the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and agree to assist the patient with possessing, cultivating, and transporting marijuana for the patient’s medical use. A caregiver can possess no more than two mature marijuana plants, seven immature plants, and two ounces of usable marijuana for the registered qualifying patient.
A registered patient and designated registered caregiver cannot cultivate marijuana if a dispensary has been designated.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or above.
- Must have never been convicted of a drug-related crime.
- Must be registered with Vermont Department of Public Safety.
Becoming a Caregiver
- The caregiver must apply and complete the application form online with the required information.
- The caregiver must have copies of the application form. Printed copies of applications must be filled out in pen or with typewriter.
- The caregiver must sign a release form for a criminal background check.
- The applying caregiver is required to provide a digital photograph as well as a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee for the Marijuana
- Registry Identification Card. Send the completed forms along with the other required items via US Mail (faxes and electronic filing are not allowed)
